The Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation is designed for oily and sensitive skin. This light, oil-free formula claims to deliver all day shine control and blend flawlessly for a natural matte finish. I heard that it’s a dupe for the Hourglass Immaculate Liquid Powder Foundation so I was interested to try it. *Edit – Since posting I have tried the Hourglass foundation and while their textures are different, I can see the similarities. I prefer the Rimmel foundation.
About my skin.
Earlier this year I had severe cystic acne and my skin produced enough oil on the daily to fill a car engine. I needed foundation to feel comfortable leaving my house. Unfortunately, nearly every foundation I tried seemed to aggravate my acne. A product I wish I knew about at the time is the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation.
After I stopped using beauty that contain irritants my acne cleared! However, I was left with very sensitive skin. My skin type changed from very oily to normal / dry.
About the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation.
The Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Foundation is described as a feather-light liquid mousse that blends flawlessly for natural looking skin and all day shine control. It is fragrance & irritant free making it suitable for sensitive, acne prone skin. I don’t break out to this but because its a thicker formula it may not be suitable for everyone.
My thoughts on the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation.
I use the shade 103 True Ivory. Swatches online show this shade to have yellow undertones but mine is definitely more peach. The colour isn’t a perfect match for me. In fact, it looks like I am wearing a mask when I first apply it but it quickly adapts to my skin tone and
I hope I pull it off.
I have tested this with a damp Beauty Blender and a Real Techniques blending brush. I prefer the finish when I use the Beauty Blender but the damp sponge disrupts my sunscreen so I use the brush instead.
One thin layer gives medium coverage, you can achieve full coverage with two. I prefer to apply one thin layer all over my face and then go over my problem areas with a tiny bit more. There is no point in building it up in areas I dont need it.
I was surprised at how little product you need to get full coverage and that it doesn’t feel like full coverage either. As it has a light matte finish, most people will not need a powder to set it. I don’t use one and it stays put for 5+ hours.
As my skin is normal to dry skin the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation feels a little drying on me. I need a thick moisturiser underneath or my face starts feeling a bit tight.
This formula is designed for oily skin. It can accentuate dry patches, fine lines and wrinkles. I barely even have fine lines around my eyes and I need a thick layer of moisturiser to stop it from making them stand out. I would not recommend this formula for mature skin.
One of the best things about the Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse foundation is the price. At $14.95 I don’t think anyone could claim this foundation isn’t great value for money. I certainly recommend anyone with sensitive, oily and acne prone skin to give it a try.
I purchased mine from Priceline but it’s sold at most supermarkets and chemists so you won’t have any trouble finding it.
Thanks for reading, share this post with anyone you know who has oily skin – they may thank you for it.
