I keep a minimalist makeup collection so I need to be smart when it comes to purchasing new products. I really wanted to splurge on a blush but it had to meet the following criteria: good pigmentation, suit my skin tone and work well with most makeup looks. I decided to buy the iconic Nars Orgasm blush. In this review I will share my thoughts on the shade, longevity, pigmentation and price.
I love how minimalist and sleek Nars packaging is, although their rubberized compacts are painfully hard to keep clean.
This shimmery pinky-peach looks stunning on my blonde, blue-eyed, porcelain skinned sister. On me with medium brown hair, green eyes and freckles…meh. Its not terrible but I dont feel my best when I wear it. It looks so pretty swatched but I dont think it personally suits me which is a shame. I wasn’t expecting the blush to have so much shimmer. I knew it contained shimmer but in the photos I looked at before purchasing it didn’t seem too noticeable on the face. When I have applied this and look at myself in daylight I sometimes feel the shimmer looks super conspicuous and unflattering. I sometimes worry that it looks like I have put a pink toned highlighter on my cheeks.
I expected more in terms of pigmentation considering the price point. I am all for sheer products, not everything needs to be 100% pigment but I really need to layer it on in order to get just light to medium coverage. Another thing I dislike is how how fast this fades. I need to reapply it a few times before I even get out the door and after a few hours its like I had put nothing on.
At AUD$47 is Nars Orgasm any better than a drugstore blush? No. I have used many really inexpensive blushers that have been much superior to this in terms of staying power and pigmentation. I feel pretty annoyed that I spend triple the price of a decent drugstore blush and the quality just wasn’t there.
I am still going to use this up but I clearly wont be repurchasing. I dont like writing negative reviews but it sucks when you only see really positive reviews for a product (like I did with this) and then your super disappointed when you buy it and its not as good as everyone makes out. It’s really not a terrible product but it just couldn’t live up to its own hype.
