I have been obsessed with dewy, glowing makeup lately so I decided to invest in the Nars Copacabana Illuminator. This highly raved about illuminator is a versatile light-reflecting liquid that can be applied all over the face or used as a highlighter. It can be worn under, over or mixed with foundation.
Copacabana is a glistening pearl shade which looks amazing on light to medium skin. I think the colour works on both warm and cool skin tones, it’s seriously stunning! The illuminator also comes in 3 other shades – Hot Sand (peach with gold shimmer), Orgasm (peachy pink with gold shimmer) and Super Orgasm (peachy pink with gold glitter). Copacabana is super pigmented – a little goes a long way. You can achieve a subtle or strong look depending on how much you use.
The formula is thick and dense which makes it really easy to work with – the last thing you want is to have highlighter drip down your face. I have read some complaints that it can disrupt foundation if you apply it with a brush after foundation. I avoid this by patting it into the skin with my finger. Alternatively, you could apply it underneath foundation for a more subtle look.
I love how versatile the Nars Copacabana Illuminator is. Since it’s a liquid your able to mix it in with your foundation to get brighter, glowing skin as well using it as you would a powder highlight. I like to use a tiny bit in my foundation and then I pat it onto my cheek bones, around the brow bone, on my cupids bow and on the tip of my nose. I also use it to highlight my collar bones on special occasions.
The illuminator is packaged in a 30ml plastic tube. This is a great amount of product for the price considering how little you need and how long this product will last. I like the transparent packaging so you can see how much you have left. I never want to be without this so I am really glad I can see when I am getting low!
There are certainly more affordable options when it comes to illuminators but I think it’s worth the investment. I have tried the Mac Strobe Cream and the Revlon Photoready Skinlights Illuminator and they just can’t compare to the Nars Copacabana Illuminator.
Those with acne prone skin may want to avoid mixing this with foundation as it contains some fragrance ingredients like Limonene. The small amount is fine for most people but for those with sensitive skin, it could cause a breakout or rash. I have sensitive, acne prone skin and I noticed I get a few tiny bumps when using this mixed into my foundation. I still love it as a highlighter and it causes no issues on my cheek bones, cupids bow and nose.
The Nars Copacabana Illuminator is one of the very few products I would recommend to everyone. I am going to repurchase it. If you have the opportunity, go and swatch it but be warned you will fall in love, buy it and never be without it again. I purchased mine online from Mecca.
