When searching for a red lipstick to complete my minimalist makeup collection I wanted to find a shade that was wearable, good quality and that made me feel good. At the time I was binge watching The Originals so I am not surprised that I chose the ultimate blood red lipstick – ‘Fire Down Below’ by Nars. It was created to resemble the colour of human blood and contains no orange or blue tones. This makes it universally flattering. Fire Down Below could almost be the perfect lipstick if it wasn’t for one flaw which I will share with you soon. First, let me give you more details on the product.
About Nars Fire Down Below Lipstick
Nars Fire Down Below is semi-matte so it has a slight sheen but is not shiny or glossy. The formula is lightweight and leans more on the dry side.
Fire Down Below is understated and elegant. I usually pat it on my lips and blend it in with my finger to create a stain. It looks really pretty on the cheeks too so I also use it as a cream blush. Red may seem daunting but with a light hand it can look like a natural flush – try it.
Now for the big flaw: the lasting power isn’t great. I am realistic when it comes to lipstick. I know you need to touch it up reguarly but this lasts only thirty minutes before it fades. Even on my cheeks, it just dissapears. Although this is not ideal – I have found a way to appreciate this flaw. Fire Down Below makes me feel so good about myself that when I reapply it on a night out, I get a little confidence boost. So maybe the lack of staying power isnt such a big flaw after all.
Fire Down Below by Nars does not have the strongest staying power but this unique, elegant and understanted shade has quickly become my signature red lipstick. I highly reccomend it!
