I had never considered my skin tone when buying fake tan. I just picked light or dark depending on how tan I wanted to be. I didn’t know that different undertones could make a difference to how your tan turns out. Certain tanning products I have used in the past have made me look a little off and wonder if it was their undertone? Australis have just released their new ‘Perfect Match’ range which uses different base colours to suit cool, neutral and warm skin tones. Other brands have probably been doing this for some time but no one has been clear about it. Australis make it easy for you to know which shade is right for you.
I have warm skin undertones and while my arms are olive, the rest of me is pale so I went with the green based ‘Neutral’ to be safe. It is suitable for all skin types.
Here are my thoughts after four uses:
- Pleasant and faint scent
- Dries relatively quick
- Medium to deep colour with two coats
- Fades well
- Not drying on the skin
- 3 hours developing time
- The most intense guide colour ever. With just one coat I cannot believe how deep the tan looked. The guide colour washed off in the shower (leaving me much lighter) and the water running off me was dark brown. I’m used to a little colour coming off but the water looked like mud. That in itself isn’t a big deal but it brings me to my next point.
- My clothes and bed got stained (from sitting on the top for 2 minutes) – it came off on everything. It does wash out luckily but as you know, its a pain to have to wash everything after tan night. There are other fake tans available (like the Paula’s Choice Sun 365 Tan) which do not stain at all.
- It contains fragrance. Fragrance is really unnecessary (in my opinion) and damaging to the skin so this is not a product I would use on my face or one that I would use over a long period of time.
So those are my thoughts on the Australis Perfect Match Mousse. I may pick up the Violet based one next time they are on sale and see if the different undertone makes any difference to how my tan looks.
