Alpha-H Liquid Gold is a cult favourite product but does it live up to the hype?
I purchased Alpha-H’s Balancing Cleanser, Clear Skin Blemish Control Gel and Liquid Gold to help control my acne prone skin without first researching their ingredients. I saw some good reviews and decided to splurge.
After a month of seeing no improvement to my skin I wondered what was going on. I finally thought to look at the ingredients.
The products contained skin irritants like fragrance, oregano, eucalyptus and alcohol.
No wonder my skin wasn’t improving.
Using the Balancing Cleanser and Clear Skin Blemish Control Gel twice a day made my skin more oily than usual.
My acne had no improvement and in fact – seemed to get worse.
The products made my skin feel cool when I applied them which I later learnt is a sign of irritation.
I used the liquid gold four times and although my skin did seem smoother the next day, my cheeks were pink and irritated (which I do not get when using well formulated chemical peel products). It also dried out my skin. I assume that is because of the high alcohol content.
While Alpha-H products do feature some beneficial ingredients such as licorice, glycolic acid and niacinamide, the irritants cancel out any benefits.
I ended up binning the Alpha-H products and used Paula’s Choice products instead.
Paulas Choice formulate their products with ingredients that are scientifically proven to be beneficial for the skin and most importantly – they do not contain any irritants. Click here to read my review on their products. Their Weekly Resist 10% AHA Treatment is a more affordable and better formulated alternative to the Liquid Gold. My skin has improved so much since I incorporated it into my skincare routine. You can click here and get $15 off your first order with Paula’s Choice.
Thanks for reading and please don’t waste your money on Alpha-H,
